Nine Disparity Anchors, Two Local Models: Geometry and Appearance Beyond the Fitting Points
Abstract
Nine known disparity values can support either a constant surface or a more flexible local fit. Across 48 eligible tiles in two Middlebury scenes, an affine fit reduced held disparity MAE from 2.8826 to 2.0986 pixels and three-view mean RGB error from 20.9466 to 19.0452 channel levels. The average gains concealed exceptions: four tiles worsened geometrically, six worsened photometrically, and eight had opposed change directions across the two outcomes. Better fitting of sparse geometry therefore needs separate evaluation beyond the anchors and on the appearance measurement it is intended to support.
Executed sparse-geometry comparison on two static Middlebury scenes. Source reference disparity supplies privileged anchors; no learned depth or camera-motion transfer method is evaluated.
