Abstract

Short coding inputs can still trigger substantial execution work. We extracted unique literal calls from HumanEval test text and traced screened canonical functions under fixed guards. Of 1,088 attempted calls, 1,084 completed and four reached the source-line limit. Completed calls executed between one and 54,713 Python source lines, with a median of nine. Input byte length had an imprecise positive association with log line count; reference-code size and a loop indicator also contributed to a model with R-squared 0.330. These are implementation-specific tracing results, not elapsed-time measurements. They suggest that input length alone gives an incomplete description of this evaluation-work proxy, while leaving hardware cost and model-generation expense unmeasured.

Bounded execution of screened canonical functions on directly literal test inputs. The study does not measure coding-model token use, wall-clock speed, or repair correctness.
